A childhood full of memories...

Are you ready to show off your English skills as a movie writer?
In this week's blog you will have the opportunity to be a movie writer.
The English skills you need to show focus on the use of Narrative Tenses.
You also need to demonstrate your creativity and writing organization skills.

Do you remember movies like Stand By Me? It tells the story of four boys in a small town in Oregon who go on a hike to find the dead body of a missing child. Too dramatic? How about The Sandlot? It is a story about a group of young boys growing up in California in 1962. A new, shy boy (Thomas Guiry) moved into the neighborhood, where he was initially rejected by the local boys because he didn't know how to play baseball. Soon, he learned the sport and joined the group of boys who played ball in a local sandlot, and with his new friends, he has a variety of adventures. By the way, the song Tequila is part of the soundtrack of this movie.  How about The Goonies. I really loved them. They were able to save their neighborhood from being foreclosed. Last but not least, I can recall The Little Rascals. In this movie a tough little gang of boys, who have a Women Haters Club, participate in a car race to get funds to build a better club house.

I am sharing some examples, because the idea is that you can share your very own movie trailer in Narrative Tenses about your own group of children. The movie trailer can be inspired on your own childhood experiences, or you can simply invent your own.

Write your movie entries here, give your classmates feedback throughout the week. I can't wait to check out your movies. Invent a creative title for your movie, and don't forget that you will be sharing about it in class.

  1. When I was a little kid, in my neighborhood we played with my brother and our friends a “war of water”. The Game it was about to make bombs with plastic bags fully of water, then we split in two teams. You have to run so fast that you can, because you have to avoid the bomb, if someone hit you with a bomb you losing, at the end we were all wet, it was so funny remember this game.

Sometimes our parents were angry because we played water, the punishment was clean the entire street to pick the plastic bags, but we really enjoy that time when you feel the freedom running for every place.

    2. Nice game. I played that game too but in a different form. We played with a soccer ball. We throw the ball between us and if you were hit you lost the game.

    4. Water Bombs is definitely a great name for a movie if one were released. I also played that game when I was young, I mean, I was not a little kid, but around 12 or 13. I was living in the States by that time. I lived in a small neighborhood. There were many kids there and we had a lot of fun. When we played water bombs we all ended up soaking wet.

  2. I think I am not good to remember movies, because I have a short memory, but I remember when I was 15 years old I remeber that I went to Flor’s house for her sweet 15th birthday, and her parents had bought a big cake, Flor didn´t want a 15th birthday party because she asked for many presents. When I arrived to Flor’s house the party had started, her mother had been cooking all morning to recive all guest and the birthday party had been very fun. I remember that her father had bought a huge TV for Flor and there were many gifts like nice clothes and I remember I thought I should never had asked for a 15th birthday party, because my friend in those times had many more expensive presents than me. :)

    3. A Quinceañera is a wonderful time in a young lady's life. It becomes a treasurable memory. I have a 17-year-old daughter and she did not want a party, she did not want presents. On the contrary, she asked for a trip. Her grandparents did not like the idea of not having a celebration, therefore, they organized a small reunion and asked the guests to give her cash instead of presents. Even though it was a small group of guests, my daughter collected $.1,0000. She took her trip to the States and visited many beautiful places such as: the Golden Gate bridge in the San Francisco Bay; San Jose, California; Santa Monica, Los Angeles, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags, Yosemite National Park, and others.
SHe had the time of her life. I am pretty sure she will always keep those memories with her.

  4. My friends and I, used to play soccer everyday. One day we had decided to climb a big hill. When we arrived to the top we throw ourselves using a few pieces of cartoons, that experience was our rollercoaster. Since that day we played less soccer and we climb that hill more often, until we decided to go further. Next of our neighborhood there was a little mountain, so that was our next goal. Finally one day we tried to achieve the top of that little mountain, we had been walking all day in the road until we got lost, fortunately for us, we find the road back to home and we never tried to climb that little mountain again. Many years later we climbed a volcano together.

    3. I totally agree with Yeshua, "Road Memories" sounds like a good name for a movie with those memories. I was wondering Vini, if you guys ever got scared when climbing the mountain. Did you ever see anything strange? Or did you ever hear weird sounds?
When I was 15 I came to Guatemala and studied at an "instituto". It was in 1ro. de Julio. One time we skipped class and ran away to a ravine (barranco). It was a very long walk. For a moment I though we got lost, but my classmates seemed to know the path very well.

  5. Childhood Memories

When I think about my childhood a lot of good memories came to my mind.

I’m the youngest of three sons.

The difference of age with my brother is 9 years old, but that wasn´t a problem for me to play with him. We had a good time playing marbles. I recently played that game with my little nephews, and immediately in that moment, good memories came to my mind.

I also have a big sister, I remembered going out with her in her bicycle, in that moment I didn’t know how to drive. My sister had a Californian bicycle, the ones that have a large seat, I sat behind her and we started our trip.

For the difference of age with my brother and sister, I also have to play a lot of time alone. I really enjoyed passed the time watching cartoons like:

    • The flintstones, the smurfs and Candy.
    • I loved to draw and pain a lot,
    • I loved to read short stories.

Another good memories for me, is when I went to the cantonal market with my mom. I really enjoyed went with her, when we were walking to return home, she usually stopped with the man who sold ice cream and buy me one!

    1. I had to google the meaning of "californian bicycle", because I don't have idea about how they were. I think it was easy to learn how to drive a bicycle with your sister's help.

    2. I also haven't idea about a Californian bicycle, I think that happen because we have the same age.

    3. So you were the lastborn in your family? I imagine your siblings took good care of you. Besides, you apparently had very good times. A good name for your movie could be, "Sweet Childhood".

    4. I remembered that I used to play this game too

    5. WOW! You brought a lot of memories talking about the "Californian" bicycle. I remember that I had one and I always washed it after used it.

    1. Now I can understand that Majo and you are really good friends. That is the perfect combination for a movie about friendship. Imagine sharing all of your travel adventures in a movie. It would be so exciting. In fact, I would like to challenge you to create a blog about your trips and share some pictures. There is nothing as fun as traveling with a good friend.

  9. Talking about my childhood, a lot of memories came to my mind. I remember when we played "Chiviri cuarta por mí", a kind of game like "Escondite" (hiding place) when you have to hide in some place and then somebody had to find you first that you run to touch the base.
I remember the games in the street, soccer with a plastic ball and baseball with a tennis ball, what a good times!
I grow up with 4 sisters and the funny part is that I have to play sometimes with dolls and a "Father and Mom", I remember one time when I was a priest and I had to baptize the dolls.
But I remember specially the horse trips in my neighborhood, because at the end of the year, some guys came to rent horses and I don´t have money to pay them, I remember that I took some food of my house and I changed food by a horse trip.
Thinking about to make a movie, I will make a movie about stories with horses, I love this animals and I love take a ride with them. Do you remember the series "My friend Flicka"? I remember this beauty mare. I had the opportunity to take some vacations with my cousins in El Rosario, Zacapa, his grandfather had farm and he had some horses, I will never forget the ride with the horses in the farm.
