Time Issues

How many of you have suffered inconveniences related to time?

Well, in my case I like to be punctual and feel frustrated when I don't make it to a place on time. Another issue for me is, not having enough time to finish tasks. I sometimes feel I have so much on my plate, and even when I try my best organizing the important first, the urgent takes over. That is what I can say on my side. Now, in general, I really dislike it when meeting don't start on time. That, for me, is very disrespectful. Having to wait in line at the bank is also another waste of time, when we can use online banking. Time is so precious and every minute counts. Unfortunately, not only delays or long lines take away time, also a surprise visit, an unexpected call, or someone who needs your help in the last minute.
Listen to the following radio show and pay attention to the advice given by the time management guru Richard. Which situation do you relate to? What advice would you give the callers?
Make sure your writing is organized and that is no less than 250 words. This is your writing assessment of September.

Historical Movies

This week we'll be sharing about Historical Movies. This movie genre sets the events of the movie in a specific time in History. Not only it provides us details about what happened during that point in History, but it also narrates a story. Sometimes it can be a fiction story about romance, friendship or success and other times it focuses on someones life and achievements.

Producers need to consider several aspects when it comes to Historical movies. Some aspects include setting, costumes, music, effects, and even language! As language varies form time to time.
I am not a critic, but there have been cases in which some of those factors are not well taken care of. However, that is not the only thing. Producers also need to be careful with events that where taking place during that time if they want an accurate historical movie.

  • Do you think it is important to follow the timeline in History for the movie to be successful? or
  • Do you think some facts or events can be altered for the movie to gain more popularity?
  • If you could produce a Historical movie of your own, what event in History would you focus on?
I am sharing a link where you can find some examples of Historical movies. Tell us which ones you like.

Breaking up!

Are break ups hard?

When it is time to bring a relationship to an end it takes deep thought to find the right words to avoid hurting feelings. Even though it is tough, it has to be done.
The first question is, are there "the right words?" I mean, there are several reasons for a break up, some can be friendly due to mutual agreement, but others are rough and both sides can leave very hurt.
The second question is, who takes the lead? Sometimes it is YOU, who has to find the words and choose the moment to talk to your partner and tell them it is all over.
I had to break up a couple of times. I really hated it, but it was necessary. I was not happy and I had to let my couple about it. It was very annoying because both times the guy cried. However, I had to be strong to show them that it was a final decision. I haven't gone through the experience of someone breaking up with me. Which is good! But, I can imagine how sad it can be.
What about you? What are the words you can use? Have you broken up with someone or the other way around? How was it? What do you suggest can be done when breaking up is hard?
Take a few minutes to this classic break up song!

A childhood full of memories...

Are you ready to show off your English skills as a movie writer?
In this week's blog you will have the opportunity to be a movie writer.
The English skills you need to show focus on the use of Narrative Tenses.
You also need to demonstrate your creativity and writing organization skills.

Do you remember movies like Stand By Me? It tells the story of four boys in a small town in Oregon who go on a hike to find the dead body of a missing child. Too dramatic? How about The Sandlot? It is a story about a group of young boys growing up in California in 1962. A new, shy boy (Thomas Guiry) moved into the neighborhood, where he was initially rejected by the local boys because he didn't know how to play baseball. Soon, he learned the sport and joined the group of boys who played ball in a local sandlot, and with his new friends, he has a variety of adventures. By the way, the song Tequila is part of the soundtrack of this movie.  How about The Goonies. I really loved them. They were able to save their neighborhood from being foreclosed. Last but not least, I can recall The Little Rascals. In this movie a tough little gang of boys, who have a Women Haters Club, participate in a car race to get funds to build a better club house.

I am sharing some examples, because the idea is that you can share your very own movie trailer in Narrative Tenses about your own group of children. The movie trailer can be inspired on your own childhood experiences, or you can simply invent your own.

Write your movie entries here, give your classmates feedback throughout the week. I can't wait to check out your movies. Invent a creative title for your movie, and don't forget that you will be sharing about it in class.

Getting to know you

When a good deal of time will be spent in the same class with the same group, it is important to share a little about each other. You might not care who you are with every Saturday, however, it is nice to know likes and dislikes, hobbies, a little bit about your jobs and perhaps your family. It is not necessary to provide details. You are allowed to share what you feel like sharing. Let me start.

I have been a teacher for 16 years. I never thought of becoming one, but those are the things one discovers on the way. I truly enjoy it! I have met a lot of people and have lived many nice experiences being a teacher. I have taught preschool, elementary, teens, adults, and even seniors. I don't have an age group of preference, I simply love teaching! I completed my bachelor degree in Technology and  English teaching. I also finished my master in e-Learning. I am currently taking courses on coding and a little bit of animation. I can't stop learning.

On the other hand, I love spending time with my family. Even though we don't have as much time as I wish, because we are involved in many activities, we enjoy traveling around Guatemala. We all like nature, therefore we usually visit natural parks and other tourist places in  Guate. My three kids have a lot of fun, since they really love the places we visit.

Tu sum up, I'd like to tell you some of my likes and dislikes. Whenever I can, I totally go for some time by myself reading a good piece and enjoying a fine drink. You know what they say, "everybody needs some time on their own". I like eating out with friends, although I can't do it that often. I like listening to music. What would life be without music? I love almost every genre and I typically select the genre according to my mood or occasion. There are some days I feel retro, so I go back in time through music. On the contrary, there are a few things I dislike. I dislike gossiping, watching soap operas, reggaeton, negative and untruthful people.

Is there anything else you would like to learn about your teacher? Go ahead and ask! I will be happy to share, as long as it is not too personal. Include your expectations about this course.  Remember we all want to learn about you as well, so begin typing!
